Depression. Its concept, causes, and treatment

Depression mainly affects the way you think and feeling things and thus affects behavior that leads to various problems. It also affects the various activities that a person performs during the normal day, as well as it leads to a person feeling that his presence in life is not important and life has no value. This disease cannot be easily eliminated by the individual himself, but it requires long periods of follow-up. It also requires continuity on medications in some cases if the depression is advanced. so we need to know this disease and how to avoid it by answering the following complex question:

What is the concept of depression, what are its causes, symptoms treatment and how do I get rid of it?

The concept of depression: It is one of the most diffuse psychological diseases at the present time and it is considered the disease of the age. Depression is the reason for the continuous feeling of severe sadness and losing of a sense of happiness and pleasure while engaging in any activity that is relatively enjoyable for the person.

Symptoms: In addition to the constant feeling of sadness, sour mood and inability to feel happiness, there are other symptoms including: feelings of guilt, losing of hope, feeling that life is useless and has no purpose, losing of life’s pleasures,  lack of enjoyment of various sports and other activities, difficulty of concentrating and forgetting, insomnia when sleeping or excessive sleep, a change in diet which appears in the form of an increase or decrease having meals, extreme fatigue and lack of physical energy, also person always has thoughts related to death or suicide, as well as slow movement and lack of speech.

Its causes:

Depression causes are many and sometimes the cause is more than one source. There are a number of auxiliary factors that increase the likelihood of depression including: Genetic factors, where depression is considered a genetic disease. Environmental factors may affect a person directly. Some medicines have side effects and can cause depression, exposure to trauma, whether emotional or other, or severe psychological pressure, or exposure to an accident.

All previous reasons or more than one reason on the same person at the same time can enter the person into a state of depression.

Treatment:

Depression is considered a treatable disease if the patient continues on the necessary treatment, as there are main methods and secondary or auxiliary methods of treatment such as:

- Pharmacotherapy, psychotherapy and other auxiliary treatments and we will discuss them in detail below.

First, the most important auxiliary factors in treatment is educating patient's family members, by supporting the patient emotionally and psychologically until he passes this stage, which can be critical in an individual's life. Of course, cases of depression vary from one case to another, and only the specialist can define the degree of depression and the most appropriate method for each case.

Psychotherapy is often a mixture of the three types, which helps the person to change negative thoughts and understand the feeling of the person with depression and how to overcome it. Stress helps a person to deal with the difficulties of life that he is going through and can deal with them in a positive way.
